About Us

What kind of people are we?

In our modern day society one never really knows what they will find when they visit a place of worship. For many, it may be difficult to enter a building they are not accustomed to; one filled with individuals they have never met, or at the most they know very little about. It may be difficult to attend a worship service where one is unfamiliar with the worship service.

So, what kind of people are we? The members of the Lawnville Road Church of Christ are people like any others; we are just ordinary people with ordinary jobs. Some of our members are elderly and some are young; some are retired, some may be teachers, secretaries, engineers, factory workers, homemakers, and some may have high tech jobs.  Yet still, we are ordinary people.

What binds all these different types of people together? All are Christians. We are not merely Christians but a family of Christians with the same goals in mind; the goals of serving God and living eternally with Him. This in no way means we are perfect, rather we are simply striving to grow spiritually every day; becoming more of what God wants us to be, and growing closer to His Son, Jesus Christ.

What is our worship like?

Our worship to God is not extravagant, nor is it entertainment oriented. Rather, our worship to God is reverent and respectful; it centers on complying with the will of God as described in the New Testament. We desire to worship God in spirit (right attitude), and in truth (following biblical guidelines) as according to John 4:24. As we worship God, we sing without the aid of musical instruments because the New Testament specifies this kind of music in (Ephesians 5:19).  As we worship God we partake of the Lord’s Supper every first day of the week because this is the example of the first century Church as seen in (Acts 20:7 & 1Cor. 11).  We offer prayers as a congregation as seen in (1Timothy 2:1-4; 1Thess. 5:17). Concerning our collection of money, we follow the Biblical commands and examples found in the New Testament. Each person gives as they have been prospered upon the first day (Sunday) of each week (1Cor. 16:1-2). We meet each Sunday to study the word of God as well. We accomplish this through thought provoking Bible Classes and sermons that are designed to bring the Word of God into the hearts of our members.

What is our creed?

We believe that the Bible is the inspired, inerrant and infallible Word of God; this includes both the Old and the New Testaments (2 Timothy 3: 16-17). Therefore we study the Bible because it is God’s direct revelation to us, expressing God’s will in all matters.   We believe that since the Bible is the inspired Word of God, we do not need another creed or confession of faith.  We simply use the Bible as our sole source of religious authority.  It is not merely a book of suggestions, nor is it outdated and irrelevant for mankind today. Being divinely inspired it contains divine commands and enduring truths pertaining to our eternal salvation, from the doctrine of forgiveness of sin, to how to worship acceptably, to how to build a lasting marriage, to how to raise children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord, and many other truths.  Considering the Bible is the inspired word of God, it then contains the mind of God. We cannot honor God without also giving due respect to His word (Luke 6:46).
